The Fast Lyapunov Indicator (introduced by Froeschle et al. in 1997) is a fast method to distinguish qualitatively between regular and chaotic motion in a dynamical system. This indicator is defined as the norm of the largest tangent vector, which grows exponentially for orbits started in a chaotic region. An application of the FLI to planetary motion in binaries can be found in Pilat-Lohinger & Dvorak (2002). |
