Short Lyapunov Indicators for Planets in Double Star Systems

The discovery of extra solar planets in double star systems (e.g.
55 Cnc, 16 CygB, Gl86, tau Boo) lead to a growing interest of stability
studies of such systems. Former studies of a binary with mass-ratio 0.5
showed a sharp transition from regular to chaotic motion by means of
the Lyapunov Characteristic Exponents and the Local Lyapunov Characteristic
Numbers - both methods require long-term computations. In this study we
determined the stable region for numerous binaries (for which the mass-ratio
and the initial eccentricity have been varied) with the aid of the fast
Lyapunov Indicators.
